Reposted: I have no clue as to why the word doentary is spelled wrong twice. After going back and reading the comment before I posted it, it was spelled correctly...just wanted you all to know that I can spell. Wait...it will probably show up wrong again!! Weird. D-O-C-U-M-E-N-T-A-R-Y....

I wanted to leave this comment only to say that I was inspired by this young lady after watching her last night on tv during the Olympics. The fact that she has been in the shadows of other gymnatists, but kept working hard made me want to look her up and see her story. I can say that I am a fan of Aly's now. She seems very humble. As for the comments below regarding Gabby not being in the doentary at the end...I agree with other posters who have stated that there could have been any reasons. Bottomline, who cares. All of these ladies are AMERICANS. We should be rooting for the ALL. Yes, I understand that we have our faves, but at the end of the day ALL of these ladies train hard and ALL deserve to do their best and compete for gold. After watching last night, Aly finished ahead of Gabby and Jordyn (the so-called fave). I think that just proves that in this competition, there are no gaurantees as to who will come out on top...it all depends on who has the best day. Yesterday in London that was Aly. Congrats to her! For the record, I am an African-American female. It is expected of me to root for Gabby by some, but why is that? I like who I like and after watching the events last night and then Aly's story in the doentary...she is the one that I hold out the most hope for. I appreciate an underdog. Especially one who works just as hard and who the media and the country overlook. In the end, I will be happy for any of these two young ladies bringing home gold, for I will not watched and cheer against Gabby just because I have this new found respect for Aly. I will watch in support of them both. Good luck ladies and GO TEAM USA!!!!

GymNASTY - It tickles me to death that the first mention of black OR white in these video comments came from YOU and ONLY you, yet since someone said they noticed Gabby wasn't there, you complain about people bringing up race!! HAHHAHAHAAA! Very telling... very telling, indeed! STOP TELLING ON YOURSELF. ;)

I was wondering where Gabby was too, but I'm assuming that she just had somewhere else to be. Why are people jumping to the conclusion using the race card? Seriously STOP. Kyla Ross is actually a lot of different races, including part black. Wishing all the Olympic gymnasts the best of luck in London!! They all have worked so hard and I can't wait to see them compete!

@guaynabogirl aly is contractually obligated to participate in promotions. her coach was very supportive of her decision to turn pro, as he was with alicia sacramone so i think he understands she has those obligations.

her not attending the proper graduation was for her health and to minimise injury. they said the room and the gown for that amount of time would be too hot (im guessing which will wreak havoc on her already warm muscles) and anyone who has worn a cap and gown knows how heavy and hot they are in the summer. it was very nice that her school recognised that sacrifice and celebrated her achievements the day before.
thanks gymnastike for uploading the doco. i definitely have a new appreciation for how mentally strong and focused these girls are, especially aly. she's just so solid and consistent, it's really admirable.

To Holly,
No thanks, I believe you:) The only economies of scale Gabby info I'll consume will be how she worked her a## off to express herself. But you're doing good!

To Anon Coward,
Super attitude! Everybody is safe to land in friendlyville.

I find it interesting that on a video about Aly Raisman, Gabby Douglas (and her entire family) is bashed. We don't know why the other ladies weren't their with their families and we don't know how people showed up. It could have been that the other ladies stayed at another hotel. It could have been that people just dropped by. There are so many explanations for how and why but let's not assume race first.
Also to those that keep saying Anon Coward keeps bringing up race, I would like to point out that Anon Coward is what a lot of people use on here because you don't have to sign up to post. So Anon Coward could be a lot of people.

Also to the last poster... I think your comments are rather harsh and insensitive. There has been a lot of attention drawn to Gabby's family's struggles and things but that may not be her family's fault. I think you might want to evaluate your perspective and your judgements. Right now you sound very judgmental.

You forgot to mention that Anna Li and Sarah and Ebee were not there - so, I guess the jewish family does not like Chinese Americans as well. By all means let's concentrate on all of the races of the gymnasts. That viewing party was well planned ahead of time of course and I am sure it was completely scripted - I got an invite, but of course I am white, I did not attend though. Please move on to defend another minority group - defend why an openly gay gymnast was not selected for the team...it is so wrong. Also why did Vega not get selected? Is it because she is Latino? Gabby only did not attend because it was a last minute thing and she was off - as the new Queen - doing her own promotions....or at least her Mom was doing all the interviews and asking everyone to help pay for her poor family to go to London. Maybe she can ask the previous coaches in VA for another Loan - Maybe Coach Chow will pay her way - she is on full scholarship at Chow's right? OK - if you want to bring Gabby up in every post - be ready to read the real reasons people are less than excited about her - it is not her race at all.

@ guaynabogirl What's so ironic about missing practice for doing ads and promos? She sign a contract with Octagon. She practices everyday. It's good to have one day breaks here or there. And during the time of graduation. She was in Chicago for the Classics! She would have been there if the classics was held at another time.

@ Anonymous Coward What's wrong with you? You have always bring this black and white thing up. . . I'm sure the Filmer and Alys family have asked. It would have been rude. Or maybe Gabby and and her family are off somewhere to enjoy dinner and they can't find them anywhere at the time of the filming of doentary. And if what they don't want to be in the doentary. They just want sometime alone with Gabby and catch up with things. And did you see Kyla and McKayla's family there or is it just them, themselves? NOT ALL ARE BLACK AND WHITE THINGS ANYMORE! A new era has come. It's about not having confidence and insecurity within yourself. Do you see that?!

How nice of them to not include Gabby and her family in the viewing party back at the hotel.

guaynabogirl 10 months ago

Ironic that Aly's parent's refer to her missing her graduation as a sacrifice she has to make yet have no problems with her missing practice to do all the ads and promotion

Anonymous Coward 10 months ago

What if aly gets cursed just like sam did in 08. You are never suppose to be in an olympic doentary until after the olympics

i loved this doentary. aly is such an amazing gymnast and i hope she gets what she deserves in london. my favorite part has to be when aly, her family, jordyn, mckayla, kyla, and their families were watching the competition... so cute.
