So I'm by no means an expert--in fact I don't even know what most of those things she does are called, BUT perhaps that makes my opinion somewhat important in that it is simple and not overly self-involved. Gabby has that SOMETHING that is breathtaking when she preforms! She is captivating and her lines are so amazingly pleasing. When she sticks a landing it is just beautiful! Call it what you want to, call it over-scored if you have to, I don't care what it is--I don't get as much simple joy out of watching any other female gymnast this year yet!

Please reread my entry "@Sad Fan" no where in my long, drawn out paragraphs did I ever say Douglas was a shoe in for the all around. After you are finished analyzing my paragraphs you will see that this is true :)
I was simply replying to those nay sayers who are saying that internationally Gabby will not receive good scores and that she won't hit a 60. These "nay sayers" refer to Worlds. I was just pointing out the fact that Douglas CAN score well in international competitions. Thank you :)

@Sad Fan 10 months ago

you can't assumed that she will get all 2.7-2.9 credited this year. if that logic were correct, there would be no need for them to compete. you can't win strictly by potential.

I could not agree more Sad Fan. Its like people just don't want her to be good , I really can't understand it exactly. I see she was a bit over-scored but its still not impossible for be up at the top if she hits in London, just look at where she was at Worlds last year and she has improved greatly in execution and also some in difficulty as well. *shrugg*

Oh poop I mean "realize" not "release" that's embarrassing :)

First off, when typing a comment it is not that hard to make up a little name, that way you aren't forced to use Anoymous Coward (and because multiple people use the same name the conversation gets confusing). Those of you who are saying that Gabby will not break 62 at the Olympics... YOU ARE RIGHT!
But then again, neither will ANY of the other competitors. The highest score at a World Championships was recorded by Mustafina in the 2010 (61.032)
While Gabby only recorded a 57.657, Komova and Wieber only posted 60.157 and 60.032 (these scores are from the qualifying round). Gabby only was behind Wieber by 2.375.

From last year Gabby gains an automatc .7 on her vault. Her SV on bars has increased .1, but you can NOT tell me that her current dismount (double layout) has the same deductions as her disasterous dismount (full in) from last year. She gains AT LEAST .3-.5 on her new dismount. On balance beam she has increased her DOD by .2. Plus the "haters" fail to release that Gabby had a hip injury last year that did not allow her to reach the 180 on all her leaps. She she gains around .5 (she has 5 leaps in her beam routine) along with a missed connection (.1) On floor she takes a .3 step out of her double arabian instead of leaping out so she loses the .1 SV. And once again her injury hurts her leaps... So add about .3.
Right there that is 2.7-2.9 worth of improvements... She was trailing Wieber by 2.375. So PLEASE don't tell me she won't score well this year at the games ;) thanks

i did go to usagym its the same tumbling she upgraded jumps and stuff visas day 2 2011 she got a 5.9 i'm guessing something was credited. She is up to a 6.2 now. but if you watch the videos from worlds prelims her floor tumbling is just as good as it was at 2012 trials and visas (except for step on double arabian). she is getting almost a point and a half on every event. she improved a lot, but not that much. its gonna be like when at visas and trials shawn was getting 16's on floor and then low to mid 15's at the olympics.. And its just funny how people are starting to notice gabby's releases and stuff now. the only reason she is scoring so high is because of the hype, she is almost identical to last year execution wise, with small upgrades and a huge one on vault.

Obvisoulsly her execution is greatly improved also. Still not sure why it's so unbelievable to you.

Anonymous Coward 10 months ago

all you have to to is go to visas from last year and visas from this year and you will see what i am talking about. she upgraded every event. i researched it before i said it. her floor is definitely not the same. just got o usagym.org and look at her starts from then and now.. smh

Anonymous Coward 10 months ago

actually her bars was a 6.4 she only upgraded one tenth, beam is the same but now she is slightly better at connecting, and floor she added two tenths from a 6.0. Her releases were always high, her floor looks the exact same, her beam has improved, and her vault is upgraded. I just don't she the drastic over 1 point improvements. Although she has improved a lot and is great! just not that much

Anonymous Coward 10 months ago

She upgraded her vault obviously to an amanar it was 5.8 now its 6.5. She upgraded her bars, she wasn't doing the piked release move. Her UB was 6.3 now its 6.5 at least but she has a 6.8 or higher.. She upgraded her floor. it was a 5.8 now it's a 6.2 and she upgraded her beam from a 6.0 to a 6.4. She upgraded every event and worked on her connections and her execution obviously.

These videos won't play for me - any ideas why? I'm in Spain... don't know if that has anything to do with it.

She's improved execution on all her events so of course her scores are gonna be higher. And she added more difficulty on floor too.

I know for some people the word amplitude is big and hard to understand, but this young lady has crazy amplitude. That's where a lot of her skills are much better than those of other gymnasts. She is also incredibly light in her skills and seemingly effortless. So, get over your little petty jealousies and really take a look at what this young lady does.

Anonymous Coward 11 months ago

to be honest after really looking at I don't understand at all how her scores on all events have raised over about a point. On bars she is a full point higher than last year, but if you look at her routine from worlds in 2011 prelims it was hit solid and it only scored 14.8 I think. And on beam she is wobbling just as much and scoring about high a tenth higher. And floor at worlds she stuck her first pass, took a 3 tenth step on her double arabian, hopped on full-in, and jumped out of double tuck and that scored a 13.8 compared to her mid to high 15's as of late... It doesn't really make sense, and she really didn't upgrade that much beside vault to amanar. on bars only 1 tenth, beam same, and i think floor the same to... I don't see the difference

Gabby, if you are reading this. I love you, but I have a method for you before you go on beam; CALM DOWN!!!! Jumping up and down and pacing back and forth in front of the beam before you mount is not going to help you settle down and focus, it's only going to make you more jittery and filled with anxiety. You need to practice meditation, breathing exercises, hell put a towel over your head and sit in the corner like Leyva if you have to, but for GOD'S SAKE CHILL OUT!! Your practices on beam are so awesome because you are calm. You get on the competition floor and become a nervous wreck before beam and make the silliest mistakes you NEVER make in practice. Don't listen to the crowd noise, don't look around. Just FOCUS AND STAY RELAXED! You know you can do it and I know you can, too, but you are going to give away an all around medal if you can't settle yourself before beam!!! I'm telling you this because I love you, girl! CHOW TEACH THIS GIRL THE ART OF RELAXATION OR MEDITATION OR FENG SUI OR SOMETHING!!!!!

Almost every routine was overscored at this meet. I mean seriously- a 15.600 for Jordyn on floor?!? That would almost never happen at the Olympics.

OVERSCORED!!!!!!!!!!
