McKayla is a member of the 2012 gold medal winning Fierce Five Olympic team! Her spectacular vaults were key performances during the qualification competition as well as during the team final. McKayla easily qualified to the vault final where she was highly favored to win, but placed second after a fall on her second vault, a Mustafina. Unfortunately, McKayla was injured during the training just prior to Olympic competition which restricted her to only competing vault. McKayla and her teammates have been living the celebrity life since their historic win- complete with talk shows, appearances, endorsements, and performing on the Kellogg's Tour of Gymnastics Champions.

In 2012, Maroney came in as the defending World Vault Champion, and began her quest to make the London Olympic Team at the Secret Classic, where she won the vault with her powerful Amanar and a brand new Mustafina vault. At the 2012 Visa Championships, Maroney hit all events on day one, but suffered a scary fall on floor during warmups, ending in a concussion and nasal fracture. She petitioned to the Senior National Team and was given permission to move on to the Olympic Trials.

At Trials, Maroney showed a full recovery from her injuries, placing seventh all-around and winning the vault title. She was named to the London Olympic team and was the heavy favorite for gold on vault.

McKayla competed at the 2011 City of Jesolo Trophy where she place 4th on the floor exercise, 5th on the uneven bars, tied for 5th on the balance beam, placed first on vault and all around and she helped Team USA win the team title.

At the 2011 Visa Championships, McKayla placed first on vault with a combined score of 30.7, 5th on floor exercise (28.15), 7th on balance beam (27.65) and 2nd all around (115.15).

McKayla has proven herself to be a valuable all around gymnast. She was named to the 2011 US Women's World Team which competed in Tokyo, Japan. She was a member of the gold medal winning US team and won the vault final.

At the 2010 Visa Championships, as a junior, McKayla was the vault champion, placed 7th on balance beam, tied for 4th on the floor exercise and placed 3rd in the all around. In 2010, she also competed at the Pan American Championships where she placed 1st on vault and floor, and helped Team USA win the team title.

McKayla has been a member of the US Women's National Team since 2010 and she trains at All Olympia in California under coaches Arthur Akopyan and Galina Marinova.
