Fabian Hambuchen of Germany drew to compete first in tonight's World High Bar Final and hit his new routine to score a 16.233 (7.50D/8.733E). He held the first place position through three routines and ultimately dropped the 4th place, missing a medal by just 1 tenth of a point.

Fabian Hambuchen is a veteran German gymnast and a 2012 Olympian. London will mark Fabian's third Olympics, after competing in both Beijing 2008 and Athens 2004. He became high bar world champion in 2007.

The reigning Olympic bronze medalist on high bar, Hambuchen has remained near the top on the event, despite battling an Achilles' injury since early 2011. His difficulty score of 7.5 on the event is amongst the highest in the world.

At the 2011 World Championships, Hambuchen helped Germany to a sixth place finish, and placed just out of the medals on high bar, in fourth place. In 2010, he took the bronze on high bar at Worlds, as well as with his team. Additionally, Fabian placed fourth on p-bars.

He made his first Olympic high bar final in 2004, where he finished in seventh place. He also competed in the all-around at those Games, placing 23rd.

Fabian was more successful in his second Olympic outing in Beijing, where he notched a seventh place finish in the all-around final and advanced to three event finals. He placed fourth on both floor exercise and parallel bars, and won a bronze medal on high bar. Fabian also helped the German team to a fourth place finish, competing five events in the team final.

The 2007 World Championships would be one of his most successful events ever, as he led the German men to a team bronze medal, while also claiming the silver all around and becoming the World Champion on high bar.

Hambuchen also did well at the 2006 Worlds, coming away with bronze medal performances on vault and in the all-around. Fabian finished fourth on high bar at the 2005 World Championships.
