I met Aja at region 8 camp this year! She is awesome! And that is definitely 1 skill not a connection of a weiler to a comaneci. It's being added to the code of points in 2012 or 2013. Go region 8!

This single skill was added to the JO Code of points and named after Aja by the Junior Olympic Technical Committee Following JO Nationals. From the committee notes:

"Recommendation that the following element be awarded E-value (# 3.508) (Sims): From near handstand, clear hip circle forward to immediate front salto straddled to catch same bar
Motion: M. Dykes
Second: B. Harris
PASSED"
Subsequently we got a temporary FIG evaluation of the skill for elite competition and FIG rated it an "F" skill.

It's one skill, just like the Hindorff is a skill....clear hip circle to Tkackev.

You drive me insane! I wish I could watch a video and read some comments without seeing you try to find a flaw in everything. You are so annoying!

It's a single skill the same way other flight elements are single skills even though they come from circling elements. There's no such thing as half a weiler the same way there's no such thing as half a giant. The circling element that comes before a flight skill or pirouette is included with the flight or pirouette as one skill, not a connection of two skills.

A wonderful connection to be sure, but a connection of two skills nonetheless. Using the finishing motion of one element to initiate the next is smart mechanics but no more than a connection. If not then round-off flic on floor, split jump back tuck on beam and kip cast handstand on bars should be single elements as well.
I do not mean to disparage her achievement, it is super cool looking and innovative. Let's see lots more like this.

I don't think it has been mentioned yet but Aja successfully competed this skill at JO Nationals so it will be officially know as the "Sims". She was 4th on bars 9.475, 6th on beam 9.450. 7th on floor 9.500, and 4th all-around to earn a spot on the JO National Team in the Junior C age division.

To be clear a Weiler according to the JO code starts from "a near handstand" and finishes in handstand and a Comaneci starts in front support. Since you being the Comaneci before you finish the Weiler is must be one skill, and has been evaluated by the JO technical committee as so. If it were two skills it would be like saying a Comaneci is two skills a cast & a Comaneci salto.

Besides a Comaneci is not listed in the code in a reverse grip so that alone would be a new skill as well.

Lastly if you were to give it two separate skills a Weiler (D) and Comaneci (E) you'd have to award and additional 0.2 CV besides 0.1 DV for the (D) Weiler and 0.2 DV for the (E) Comaneci, plus of course the 0.1 CV for the hop into it.

I see how it can be considered a new skill, however, when I watched it the very first time (as a judge) I saw a Weiler to a Comaneci...sol I see the arguements on both sides....
Either way, props to her. That takes skill!

our girl did this in 1983
Really? If that were the case why isn't int recognized in the code. Funny thing is no girls did a weiler kip in 1983. If you are saying your girl did a front hip circle to comaneci that sounds plausible but of course is totally different since it would be two separate skills a front hip circle (an A) and a comaneci (an E). This of course is a weiler (a D) and a comaneci (an E) and is by description of the those skills has to be a single new skill.

would that be considered a wieler kip to a comaneci, or is it considered a new skill?
