This is a handstand drill from Larry McDonough at ISS. This drill helps develop the proper stepping distance for a handstand. The lunge step translates into a cartwheel and round-off and is one of the basic building blocks of all tumbling gymnastics skills.
Larry McDonough is Currently the Head Coach of Individual Sports Solutions Gymnastics located in Dallas, Texas. Larry is also the Education Chair for Texas USA Gymnastics. Larry began coaching gymnastics in 1979, has been a gym owner, has coached with the KaroliÃÂs, has been to Australia and back. From 1988 to 1991, he was the Australian National Team Coach, taking teams to various International events and qualifying athletes to the World Championships (1991) and The Olympics (1992). He coached at Capital Gymnastics, where his teams participated in five USA Championships, the US Olympic Festival, and the USA Tour to South Africa . Larry has served on the Texas USAG Board for the past several years.
Coming soon will be drills for cartwheels, basic bars, press handstand and a variety of other drills from some of the top coaches in Texas. I have known Larry for 6 years now and he has a passion for coaching kids and other coaches. Larry will be making several other videos so stay tuned!
