It's great that Aly really nailed this vault at American Cup. That vault was superb and should keep her as a top contender for the Olympic team. Aly is fantastic on floor and quite solid on beam, especially with that Patterson dismount. As long as she stays healthy (Hint hint marta, don't break her) she WILL make that Olympic team. The usa team will be so strong that they don't need Aly's bars. I like how Aly has improved her presentation on FX and smiles a lot more. Aly is a veteran at international competitions and has proven herself over and over again that she CAN be counted on when it counts. She WILL be on that O team! Go Aly! |

I would not be surprised if she is not on the Olympic team. Jordyn, Gabby, McKayla, Kyla and Sarah Finnegan all have 2.5 vaults. Aly's has obvious faults, so her vault does not really give her an edge. Her beam is not that consistent, as someone pointed out below (touching the beam absoultely counts as a fall or miss in my book.. who would want that going up in team finals?) Her tumbling should lose as many points in execution as she gains in difficulty, but only time will tell if she finally gets hammered in execution. And bars... let's not go there. |

@kim Sloan didn't have a fall during day 2 of Worlds AA. Because of the New Life rule, the scores aren't added together at Worlds the same way they are at US Nationals. She did fall in prelims on beam (I believe she qualified 5th as a result), and she had a shaky beam routine during AA finals (I think she scored 14.00), but she definitely didn't fall. |

Aly should make the team, she is a strong AA, bars are weaker for her because of form, but hopefully she will get there. You don't have to be perfect-Sloan won World's with falls both days. Aly is fun to watch and always has a smile on her face, for that I would take her over some of the others any day. |

I agree you can't really compare Aly to Kyla, Rebecca or Gabby. Rebecca as more consistent than Aly?! No way. Aly's tumbling is incredible and she can go up and hit, bottom line. Yes, her bars need to be cleaner, but that should be said for a lot of other girls as well. She finished 4th in the world! Enough said right there. She will be on the team |

Jen what has Kyla, Rebecca or Gabby done at the senior level competition wise lately? Lets see about Gabby when it really counts not taking anything away from her great performance recently but now the pressure is on her. I hope she steps up but to put all of them in front of Aly is foolish besides Jordan. The pressure is on in the next few months lets see who holds up when it is all on the line. Yes Aly's bars are not her strongest skill but she is improving and they should be good enough to compete all around with the others. |

Aly is a consistent all arounder? Since when? |

I think Aly will make the team because of her consistency and difficulty. While I do admire her consistency and tumbling, otherwise, she embodies everything that I think is wrong with the current state of gymnastics. The fact that a gymnast who could not point her toes if her life depended on it even made balance beam finals at Worlds and is likely a lock for the US Olympic team is very sad. She has a complete and utter lack of basics in much of her gymnastics, and if compulsories were around, she would have been forced to learn things correctly, or she would have never made it to this point. It's not even so much an issue with Aly, but the code. |

we know from "expierence" with alicia sac that beeing a world champ isnt enough! i dont think martha will make the same mistake she made putting many veteran n the team (e.g. sacramone , memmel and even mohini before them) and with only 5 spots) i dont think there is a place for her. especially with the current code o points. |

I agree with Lissy! She is only getting better on vault, bars and is already 4th in the world on beam and third in the world on the floor. She is the most experienced gymnast on US Team right now and her floor routine is spectacular. If she puts it's all together she could be best all around in the world. |

"As Coach John said, we'll be leaving a B team at home that could easily win. Prob a C team also!" |

Aly will not make the Olympic team just because of vault. She'll make it because, besides Jordyn, she's the most consistent gymnast with have. She can handle the pressure when it counts (ie, stepping up at worlds when Alicia went down) and Marta loves that about her (so do I!). As for her form on this vault, it will only get better, I can guarantee you that. You think Alicia OR her coach is going to let her get away with anything less than the best that she can do? |

i really dont think theres a place for her in the us team! wieber, douglas, maroney and ross they all have a better amanar than her....where would she fit in london now that douglas has beaten wieber and her in the all around.... she is like jane bieger in 2008... and janas gymnastics were beatiful if you compare the to hers |

@amanda Where do you see the huge deductions? Where would you take the points off exactly? I understand that 9.6 execution is a little high--after all, Raisman's vault isn't nearly as good as Maroney's--but I don't think a 9.2-9.3 E score is excessive. That's especially true given that Russian gymnasts (read: Mustafina) got 15.7/15.8 for Amanars that were far inferior. |

"her block looks ok, she is generally laid out throughout the 2.5 twists, and her landing is fabulous. She has a bit of leg separation coming off the horse, and she may cross her feet a bit in the air," ....... |

@shannon - why dont u become a judge and take the proper deductions for us. i dont think its all "luck". i doubt she lands these scarily in practice and pulls them out of her ass like this in the meet. and as for your comment about making it onto the US team for the last 2 years, her execution obviously has its flaws on every event but she is also probably one of the most consistent gymnasts the US has. |

This girl should be thanking her lucky stars that she has been allowed anywhere near a US team in the past two years. As a judge, it pains me to see the proper execution deductions not being taken ... she should not be getting E scores above 7.5-8.0. Literally everything she does is full of deductions. The first poster is correct about her technique in this video - don't be fooled by a lucky landing, this vault is atrocious. |

I am so happy that she did this vault!! I don't know what this anonymous coward was talking about. Aly's vault looks way better than it did last summer, and I'm sure she will keep improving on it as the year goes on. As it is, her block looks ok, she is generally laid out throughout the 2.5 twists, and her landing is fabulous. She has a bit of leg separation coming off the horse, and she may cross her feet a bit in the air, but those are minor form breaks that obviously aren't costing her much on the execution score. Hope she makes it to London! |
