Nastia Liukin achieved her biggest dream in gymnastics by winning the 2008 All Around title and coming away from Beijing with a total of five Olympic medals. Liukin recently made her comeback to the sport, competing for her first competition in three years at the Secret Classic and the Visa Championships. Liukin competed the two events she will be focusing on - bars and beam - at Visa Championships and was given the opportunity to compete at the upcoming US Olympic Trials in San Jose.

Sad Fan, I don't understand your comment - she only did two events (and they only want her to do two events max), so clearly she was always going to place near the bottom of the all-around rankings. |

Even if we can't do a beam routine as well as Nastia, or even "half as well" that doesn't mean she deserves to go to trials. There are still much better people than her and that is what matters, it's completely irrelevant even if some of us can't manage a back hip circle. Being better than us is not the goal- she needs to be better than all of the other elite gymnasts to deserve a spot at trials, and clearly she wasn't. |

Wasent she 4th on beam at nationals even with a botched set day 2? Yes, beam is not going to be the reason she makes the team but it does help and shows shes pretty much their on beam. She has the potential to be better than anyone on bars and USA gymnastics knows this why not give her a chance, whats the worst that could happen. Memmel bombed Classics....let it go, Nastia did not bomb classics end of story... What you did last year does not matter. I like Chellise to but reality is more important than liking someone. I hope Nastia kills it at nationals cause we need that bar set if she can be consistent. |

Anonymous Coward, the thing that frustrates me, is that she literally placed DEAD LAST at VISA's... Not only should that be embarrassing, but how can you justifying bring someone who place dead last? I'm not mad at Nastia (like a lot of the fans) I'm mad at the situation. USAG is obviously biased. |

I am NOT made at Nasia or Marta or anyone. It is what it is. Nastia does not have a good filter and says bizarre things. I was impressed with her at the Secret Meet but beam means nothing. I am fine with CM being cut, she was NOT going to make the team and she should have been cut. I do think too man girls are going to trials. The thing is...VISAs and Trials were not a surprise event, everyone knew the dates to be ready. I am equal opportunity on this - it is no coincidence that Shawn Johnson's book is being released at this time....and she she made all the rounds to talk about retiring - she had the opportunity to push her book. Being an Olympian is a Business - the financial rewards are great if you use it to your advantage. If Nastia shows up at Trials and hits two great bar rountines and does not fall off the beam - wow, I think she should be considered for the team. I find it hard to accept that she will attempt both days if the odds are against her as much as they are now. I think she will bow out (hopefully gracefully). Don't worry, even if she does not compete, she will dominate most of the NBC coverage...that is not going ot change. |

I don't think anyone is attacking Nastia--I think people are noticing a large disparity in how the different athletes are treated. Its frustrating to watch because you want a consistent, objective set of rules: ie, if you get X you will advance, if you don't , you don't. And it just seems lately like the objectivity of the sport has been lost--and that whats makes any sport good. It SHOULD be a matter of skill and nothing else--and I feel that has been lost. |

Blaming Nastia for the decision made about Chellsie is totally ridiculous!! Whatever you think her motivation is - whether you cynically think it's just to grab attention or you think she wanted to take her last shot at competing - I wish people could say it's great that she's getting out there and competing. It takes a lot of guts. She's not the one who decided whether or not she ended up at trials - that was Marta! People are acting like it's a personal offense that Nastia competed at Nats and didn't look great. Back off, people. |

You can say a lot of things about her but she is harder on herself than anybody, with Valeri a close second...even if she didn't flog herself publicly following her showing at nationals, which it seems some people would have liked to see. She put herself out there knowing she wasn't ready because she believes she can be ready by trials, and Visa's was a step there. Martha passed her on to trials because she also believes she can be ready. |
