- See Less - Mark is the Head Coach of the University of Oklahoma men's team. Since Mark's arrival at OU, he and his Sooner team have basically dominated the NCAA, finishing either 1st or 2nd as a team over the last seven seasons.
Throughout his career, he's coached every level of the sport - from beginners, to college guys, to Olympians. He was the personal coach of 2004 Olympian Guard Young, and 2008 Olympian Jonathan Horton.
As an athlete, Mark was a member of the Junior National team, and went on to compete for Nebraska from 1977-1980. He received All-America honors on the high bar in '78 and helped his team to two national championship titles in '79 & '80.
He's not THAT negative. I mean.... some stuff that he says I agree with... but others I don't. Oh well. They're a good team... that's all that matters!
Looks very laid back. Which is my general impression of men's gymnastics training. Look at the difference of the men and women at Oly podium training. Not saying one is right or wrong. But men's gym seems mich more relaxed than women's or even than other sports like wrestling, football, etc.
I agree that Mark doesn't come across negative at all - not in this video and not in anything else I've seen with him. But, I have to disagree with you saying the team doesn't look that great. If you read the description above, and if you heard Mark in the video - this was the first time they've done half sets all year (and it says this was back in october). I think they look great considering that. And, I think it's awesome that she chose to show some of the falls. It makes the video seem more real. It shows the work they're putting in. Then during the season we can look back at this and see how far they've come. I think it's great!
Umm, maybe you know this coach personally so you know he's a jerk, but I watched the whole video and heard only two coaching comments from him, one being a joke, so how did you get "very negative" out of that? Even if Oklahoma does win a lot aren't they always, like, last on pommel horse? Maybe the coach should be MORE critical. They certainly didn't look very good here, unless the video was just edited to emphasize all the falls.
This is great to see. The men's gymnastics program needs coverage like this. The guys love what they do and work really hard to achieve these goals at a college level. It looks like they enjoy it! Thank you!
saweet! I love that you're covering some men's ncaa teams. It seems like they always get left out. But this is great! It's really cool to see how they train, and it looks like they're having fun doing it! I'm so glad someone is finally giving these amazing athletes some attention. Thank you!
Energizing workout video....Coach Williams is probably one of the greats. don't know if he was the one who said, "if you reach for the floor, you'll get it everytime," but that is a line to remember. Than ks for the coverage.
Under the direction of Head Coach Mark Williams the Oklahoma men have won 5 of the last 7 National
Championships. That's insane. So, who better to learn from, right? This workout was filmed October 8th during off-season training. Coach Williams had them showing half sets on pommels and p bars for the first time this year.
mark seems like a very negative coach. yes he has the results but i can't imagine being on one of his teams would be enjoyable
