Bri's Mom   March 3, 2009 at 3:11pm
To all my family and friends with their Purple shirts please do not post any more comments, this has gotten out of hand. There are numerous comments out there from people I do not know, people who know nothing about me or my family or my precious baby girl. Yes I do post her videos on youtube and I do not see anything wrong with that, there is over 2 million videos of gymnasts on youtube. I am not sure what this web site has to do with youtube.....but it's nice to know your watching even if you are a hater : ) Since everyone below is so famillar with me and my family and our awesome Purple shirts next time you see us at a meet please feel free to introduce yourself to us, it would be nice to know who you are.
Just for the record I never said my daughter was the best gymnast ever, nor did I say anything about WGA, several of the girls use to be Bri's team mates and friends so why would I put them down? I know how hard all of the girls work and yes I do enjoy watching my daughter the best. Duh she is my daughter and she is good at what she does. Just because I "post her videos all over the internet" does mean I have lost sight or that I do not get it. I get it and I always have. I guess people are just raised differently, I always teach my daughter to reach for the sky because dreams do come true. I feel like some of the "overzelous fans " below took all of the fun out of this. Yes it is a 16 second clip but it was Bri's 16 second clip, not anyone else's. So for all of you to turn this into a bash Bri's family posting is really unfair to her. The clip may have seemed unimportant to many but she was just thrilled for it to be posted on this web site now ALL of you have taken this to a whole different level, it's funny cause I think it was said that I got lost in all of the gymnast hoopla and that I have lost sight of what is important.......... Seems to me like so has everyone else, all I did was say I was proud of her.

People who know us know that several of the below comments were not made by my overzelous family, the comments were made by people who know nothing about me or my daughter or my family. I find all of this really sad I do not understand how something postive has turned into something so negative.......maybe I should start a website for troubled parents of gymnasts where parents can vent.

Bri's LeLe   March 3, 2009 at 2:49pm
Ok now this is ridiculous - Bri is 10 years old and this is a 16 second video which does not capture the wonderful things she does. Bri is a wonderful granddaughter and daughter first and a gymnast second. If her gymnastic career would end tomorrow, she would still be a wonderful granddaughter and daughter and that matters most. Just to set the record straight, DJ is not a member of our family nor a friend and that name is not on any shirts. We wear those shirts to show support to Bri, not to make others feel jealous or insecure. We were proud of her for even competing at this competition but Texas Girl and DJ managed to take that feeling of pride away due to their comments and replace it with with feelings of anger. Some of you can read this and say "cheer moms" but the others, who know how hard these girls work every day of their life to get here, and the dedication they have, to put their little lives on hold for something they love, know it is more than a mom pushing their child to do what the mom wants. You can't make someone that age be that dedicated to something if they don't want it. I am proud of my grand baby and I don't mind admitting that. I did comment and say I thought she was great and I stand by that. So JuJu, if that is what you were wanting, you have it. And Did you ever think that Kathy G may be teaching a computer class and that is what they do in that period? Possible- right? And Texas Girl, you were just plain hateful-I find it hard to believe an adult would be so petty with a child. You apoligized but it was obvious it was under force as your true colors showed when you said that about you tube. No one said Bri is the best gymnast, we said we loved watching her. And regardless of what you, DJ (whose comments were completely wrong), or anyone else thinks or say, I will always be proud of this little girl who touches my heart with whatever she does. Now all of you who we do not even know have taken this to another level and ruined her fun - why don't you quit writing ugly things, quit juding everyone else, and stop and look at yourselves and realize this is not about Bri anymore but about your ability to remain anomyous on the internet and speak words you won't say to someone's face. Leave my granddaughter and daughter alone - you should all be ashamed of yourselves. One thing I have learned in life - fate is a mean demon to tussle with - you might want think about that before this gets any further out of hand. And to Bri (who I pray is not reading this) I love you so much and I am proud of you every day. You make all rainy days bright - you just have to grin that grin :) Go get em girl - you are a winner in every way and I am proud of you no matter what that scoreboard says. LeLe

Kathy G - glad to see you are making good use of your teaching time by dragging your students into this drama as well. Wonder how their parents will feel about their children posting on websites during class times. I myself would be furious if it were my child. Encouraging students to post on public websites from a public school seems highly unethical. I'm assuming you are doing it to "prove" something to the other posters that didn't agree with you, but I think you lost your way.

Texas Girl - Very nice (and mature) of you to apologize to Bri. And I absolutely agree with you. I believe all of the comments that were posted were from overzealous fans (read friends and family) of Bri's. Some parents just don't get it - having your kid all over the internet does not equal success. Most parents understand that, but some just get caught up in the whole gymnastic hoopla and lose sight of what is really important.
Anonymous Coward - Good points, but don't think you will ever get your point across, some people won't ever stop and think about the other perspective and try to learn from it.
Gymfan -Judges hate to see this kind of behavior from fans/parents. Thanks for standing up for the judges and the gymnasts.
DJ - Your comments were completely uncalled for, take care in the future what you post. You were the start of all this.
There are no other comments on the other videos as there are on this one. Most people have posted things like "I'm so proud of you", "Great Job", "Keep up the good work". That is how it should be and nobody for one minute believes that anyone would post what the first posters did about "She's the one to watch" "All eyes on her" FROM A 16 SECOND CLIP unless they were family and friends!!!!!!!! Own it.

I would like to appologize to Brianna. I'm sorry I hurt your feelings. I shouldn't have said that about your talent. I didn't actually realize I said that until after I posted the comment. I shouldn't have brought you into it. Who I will not appologize to is Bri's Mom. If you do not want things said about your daughter maybe you shouldn't post her on youtube. And I still believe what I believe. The only person I don't think you know is Gymfan and Anonymous Coward. They are about the only people that called her Brianna. I also would like to add that I wasn't trying to "take away her glory" as you put it. I don't know what you mean by I have no clue. I was a gymnast, and have a daughter in it now. The difference is I don't post her on youtube or say your the best gymnast there ever was. She is a good gymnast, but I don't put pressure on her like that, so that she thinks that she must do well or she will be a failure. I just couldn't do that to her...

Does anyone else find all of this as disturbing as I do? This is a 16 sec video, that in no way highlights this girl's talent, which I am sure she has, to be competing at this level. To those who have commented negatively in regards to her abilities, and negatively in regards to other clubs - shame on you. And to those who commented that she is one to watch - shame on you, too. All the girls competing at the higher levels are "one to watch". It is inexcusably rude to those other gymnasts to post such comments. In addition, it is delusional to equate success at this level with future Olympic success; save those comments for the girls already competing in the international elite arena. And, finally, to Kathy G...the number of comments made to a post is NOT recognition, it is controversy, and unfortunately usually sheds a negative light on both the gymnast and her supporters.

I love my purple shirt and my daughter, it is sad that someone would try to take "her glory" she is only 10 and she is just a child. Maybe you have been watching Mean Girls or something. I could care less about what you think .I don't know who you are and I could really care less, but I can only feel sorry for you cause you have no clue. Please respect my daughter she is only a child and she does have feelings, to say the below postings are my family is crap no one calls Bri Brianna...........

bri speaking now
you don't need to be mean i don't care what you think i know i am me and i am a good gymanst i will keep my head up "texas girls" i am alway's goin be here so stop hating on me and get some one and your age to pick on what???

I posted it before, and I'll post it again: Brianna Winfrey is a name that is quickly becoming known. She definitely ranks among the best and seems to stand out from the rest. To Brianna's Mom- there will be lots of 'Texas Girl's' out there as your daughter continues in her success. I, too, have looked at ALL of the videos since I was not able to attend the meet and see a big difference in the number of postings elsewhere. So, congratulations to your daughter for so much recognition. By the way, maybe I could get some of those 'purple shirts' for my 3rd period class. The students are not related to you, but the 17 students have been following her since last year when she went to Regionals.

Please remember that these are little girls that are being commented on. These are also little girls that probably read these posts. So PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE no negative comments about gymnasts or their clubs. Not the way to promote good sportsmanship or the sport! You can't possibly say someone has more talent than someone else, because at any given time the roles can switch and the girls can get hung up on a skill or whatever and not score as well at one level and then excel at the next. Not fair to Brianna to say that, just as it wasn't fair to say that about the WGA girls. Sorry to preach - but I absolutely hate it when the gymnasts are attacked. They are little girls for goodness sakes!!!!

Ok. I think we all know that these people commenting are pretty much Brianna's family. I mean come on they are all posted 2 minutes apart from eachother. And it is only a 16 second clip. I have seen all 50 of you at a meet in your purple shirts, and I believe that I saw one that said DJ. Actually I know it said DJ. She is a VERY cute girl, but there are TONS of cute little gymnasts. And, sorry to say this, but they have more talent then her. And I cannot believe you would trash another team like that DJ. It is obvious that their skills and form are there. And have you seen their dance? It is absolutely beautiful. I was watching videos from the legendz classic and the little blond girl from WGA is a wonderful dancer. They deserve those scores, and if I were you, I wouldn't say that about the judges. Oh and BTW it's not like there is a set amount of points the judges can give. If Brianna and someone else both had good routines they would both get good scores. They can't give WGA all the points, because if everyone was good, everyone would get high scores.

WOW I am just so amazed that people are watching my little girl, Bri has been in this sport for 7 years and we have had our ups and downs. 2 weeks ago to this day Bri had a bad accident on vault and had to get 5 stiches in her head, so for her to compete this past weekend truely was a blessing, my little girl showed me that she is a true champion and she has the determination to go far.
I wanted to comment on some of the below comments, whille sometimes I do not always agree with the judges scores I do know that each and every gymnast works very hard and long to achieve their skills. I support all of the girls regardless of what gym they are at, because I know how hard each girl has to work to acheive success. Good luck to all gymnasts with the rest of the 2009 season!

Who was dj? Bris family didn't say that - It is obvious they support gymnastics and everything that goes with it. Of course, everyone feels like the scores are not correct all of the time (remember the last Olympics) but that goes with the sport. But kudos to you and your comments about the pressure on the judges - not a job to take lightly. And you are right - they should always have fun - when the fun stops, so should the gymnastics.

Um, no not really a follower. We weren't able to go to the meet and we were watching ALL the videos. What struck me was the comment about another club - that is sooo uncalled for. Although I do remember seeing Brianna at a meet. She's a very cute little girl that seems to be having a great time doing gymnastics. What I remember most were all the family and friends that came in matching purple shirts with Brianna's mom, Brianna's aunt, Brianna's cousin, etc - there must have been 20 of you guys! Cool to support your gymnast - not cool to trash others.

In response to DJ - judges feel "pressure" as you put it to score the gymnast based on skill level and the degree in which those skills are performed. You can throw big skills, but if you aren't clean in the execution, you will get dinged for it. WGA gymnast are very clean in their execution - for the most part, and that is why they score well. To suggest bias from the judges undermines what those girls work so very hard for and trust me they have enough issues to deal with. Brianna is also a very talented gymnast and what the hope is for ALL gymnasts - whatever the club - is that they stay healthy, have fun and do their best. That is the true measure of success in gymnastics- winning isn't everything.
