whoa I didn't know you had to do all that or you don't get credit at all!

She has a beautiful shape on the hip angle. definitely more than the girl in the video did on her dynamic attempts (although less than what you see just inj the stopped video above (on ground) with judge molding girl's angle.

I would think that if she threw her head back more she might get the trick correctly (but that would make it harder to land). I don't buy any discretion for getting older, the skill is the skill...if you lose ability as you age so be it. This thread is about doing the trick right.

Does Nastia achieve required position? Her head does not seem to be at feet level.

See this picture:

And also 53 to 1:00 of attached video (sorry for the other haterade.)

They are all snapshots, so a slow motion video would be better but I couldn't find a good one (and her hair flies around). Maybe she is making them. Or maybe she isn't and is just covering well.
hey there, i'm not a very big nastia fan either, i dont think she deserved the gold, but that's a whoooole other issue :) however... in regard to the sheep jumps, she achieves the "ring" shape and her hips are open, and for being in the air less than a full second the judges wouldn't quite catch that she doesn't have her feet right up, it is also acceptable to have your feet a bit lower, as you get older you get less flexible and your back doesn't bend in the top like it used to... i fully agree with what your saying, but for all intensive purposes, she's in sheep jump shape :)

yeah, she is lucky to be able to hear from the judge and learn from it! And her routine was soooo good! She is a great beam worker

Why feel bad for her? Her beam routine was gorgeous regardless if she received credit. Now she knows what it takes to get credit.

The Perfect Sheep Jump: What The Judge Wants To See

At the Region 3 Elite Clinic held right after the Region 3 Elite Qualifier, gymnasts and coaches had the opportunity to work with the judges in a training camp setting.
Beam Judge Carole Bunge shows an athlete why she failed to receive credit for her sheep jump, and explains what she looks for when judging sheep jumps.
